Idealliance

Established in 1997

This scholarship was established to honor Robert Swan, former chief executive officer of Swan Engraving, a three-generation company founded in 1914. Mr. Swan was a pioneer in the use of technology for packaging and publishing. Before his retirement, he was active in regional associations and encouraged them to embrace the name “prepress.”

The International Prepress Association (IPA) was a trade association consisting of the world’s leading graphic arts supplier companies. The IPA’s collective experience and resources supported their members in making well-informed decisions for profitable futures. Robert served in a leadership position within IPA for many years and became a member of their Executive Committee in 1959.

On IPA’s 100th anniversary, the organization was recognized for its long-term contributions to the industry. At that time IPA chose to acknowledge the unselfish dedication and service of one of their most respected leaders, Robert Swan.

IPA is now known as Idealliance, the leading developer of specifications and certifications in the graphic communications industry, and a global association of brands, printers, and technology companies.
